Ben Larsen sat down with Zach Haslam of Haslam Excavating Inc. to talk about the essential aspects of purchasing land, with an emphasis on septic systems! This is something that is a due diligence item when you don’t have a public sewer. As a buyer, spending the time and potentially money if seller’s don’t agree to pay for it, a soil test and perc test are well worth it and can make or break a piece of property for you. The first thing that needs to be done is to figure our where the water source is at, whether that is a water utility or a well. When there is a well, it does make for a few more steps but it is very doable. The next step in this process is a perc test where water drainage in the area is reviewed. Once these items are complete, you will submit them to your local health department to have them get you a letter of feasibility. This will tell you what kind of system is needed and a better idea as to how much the entire system will cost. Give Haslam Excavating a call for all of your septic system and excavating needs!
